Six Flags Great Adventure- Trip Report
This past Saturday, I took my first ever trip to Six Flags Great Adventure, located in Jackson, New Jersey. I really did not know what to expect from this park. I knew that they were known for their coaster collection. In here, I am going to share some pictures, and give a brief overview, and in the future, I will post Coaster Reviews for the coasters I rode.
Pulling into the park was a very cool experience. The park is literally located in the middle of nowhere, and then out of the blue, you see Kingda Ka over the trees.
Being a Saturday during Fright Fest, I planned for the park to be busy, So i purchased a Gold level Flash Pass.
My first ride of the day was Kingda Ka. Kingda Ka is an Intamin Stratacoaster, and is the world's tallest roller coaster, It is also the fastest coaster in North America. A little bit of background about me. I consider myself to be pretty brave when it comes to thrill rides and coasters. When we pulled on to the launch track, I was nervous and excited at the same time. When we launched, I screamed my lungs out. This ride was amazing! Below are my on-ride photos, in order from my first ride to my final ride.
El Toro
My second ride of the day was El Toro. El Toro is an Intamin prefabricated wooden coaster. It is known to be one of the best wooden coasters in the world. I found this coaster to be really fun. The airtime was really good, and the ride was smooth. It is definitely a solid ride, but for some reason I felt underwhelmed. I still believe that Boulder Dash is the best wooden coaster I've ridden.
Bizarro
Bizarro was next. This is the parks floorless coaster from B&M. The ride originally opened in 1999 as the first floorless roller coaster under the name Medusa. In 2009, the ride was rethemed to Bizarro along with Superman at Six Flags New England. This is the 2nd Floorless coaster that I have ridden, with the other being Batman: The Dark Knight. I have ridden a standard B&M sitdown, Kumba, and I found Bizarro to be similar to that. I really enjoyed this coaster. It has a great, forceful layout that B&M used to be known for. I found this to be one of the biggest surprises in the park for me!
Superman: Ultimate Flight
Superman Ultimate Flight is a flying coaster from B&M. This is a clone of the original at Six Flags Over Georgia. This was my third Flying Coaster, following Tatsu and a Zamperla Volare. It was not as good as Tatsu, but was miles better than the Volare. The pretzel loop is one of my favorite elements on a roller coaster, and it was no different here.
Green Lantern
Green Lantern is a B&M stand up coaster that was formerly known as Chang at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. The only other Stand Up I have ridden was The Riddlers Revenge, and that was an excellent ride. I was nervous about this one because I had heard stories about it being rough, but it was the exact opposite. This ride was amazing, and the biggest surprise of the day. Extremely smooth and had great elements to it!
Nitro
Nitro is the parks Hyper Coaster. It was made by B&M and features a layout that goes into the woods and back. This was my first B&M hyper, and it left me disappointed. It wasn't a bad ride, but I was expecting it to be more intense. I personally prefer ejector airtime rather than the floater air time that this ride provided. But, I really liked the B&M clamshell restraints!
Zuamanjaro Drop of Doom
This is the tallest drop tower in the world. I had already ridden Lex Luthor Drop of Doom, so I knew what to expect. I found the lift more interesting and intimidating than the drop. The view at the top was amazing, and I definitely got my exercise walking its queue.
I had a great day at Great Adventure, and really hope that I'll be able to get back soon!
