Ride Battle- Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom vs Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom
There are two parks in the Six Flags chain that have Strata Coasters. These parks are Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, and Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia California. Both of these Strata coasters have some of the worlds tallest drop towers attached directly on to them. Zumanjaro, the worlds tallest, is attached 415 feet up on Kingda Ka, the worlds tallest coaster. Lex Luthor is 400 feet tall and attached to Superman: Escape From Krypton. Both of these rides are insane, and very similar. I am going to go through different categories, some opinion based and some fact based, and compare them, and ultimately find out which one is the better attraction.
Height and Speed
Zumanjaro is 415 feet tall and drops at speeds of 90 miles per hour.
Lex Luthor is 400 feet tall and drops at speeds of 85 miles per hour
Zumanjaro: 8/10
Lex Luthor: 7/10
Theming
Zumajaro has an African theme. Its theme was inspired by the Safari Off Road Adventure attraction and is located in the Golden Kingdom section of the park.
Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom is themed after the DC villain. This ride is located in the parks DC Universe area.
Lex Luthor will be receiving a higher score. This is because it fits in better with the section of the park it's in, and also incorporates theming elements into the ride, such as audio at the top, and its queue has more thematic elements. Zumanjaro does not have any theming that stands out.
Zumanjaro: 3/10
Lex Luthor: 7/10
Intensity
Both rides provide a very similar experience. They bring the rider up to an extraordinary height, and drop once at a high speed. Lex Luthor however, has a fake out drop before the actual drop. I found the drop on Lex Luthor to feel a lot more forceful than its New Jersey counterpart. I found Zumanjaro to have a rather tame drop, even though it is taller and faster.
Zumanjaro: 5/10
Lex Luthor: 8/10
Both rides provide great views and a thrilling experience. In my opinion, I believe that Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom provides a better ride. My reasoning includes the ride having a theme that is cohesive to the area of the park it is located in, carrying this theming throughout the queue and even on to the ride itself, and providing a more intense drop.
