Wildcat- Review

Wildcat is a wooden roller coaster located at Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut. It was manufactured by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and opened in 1927, replacing the Green Dragon Coaster. It is one of the worlds oldest, continuously running wooden coasters. Lake Compounce, along with Great Coasters International, have put a lot of time and effort in making this ride smooth again. This is a classic coaster that has been enjoyed by many generations, and will continue to thrill riders in the future. Each category will be rated 1/10 and at the end I will share my final score and opinion of Wildcat.

  • Scenery/Theming- Wildcat is located directly in the center of Lake Compounce, and located right in front of the entrance to the park. The ride itself is located on a grassy hill. Wildcat does not have any theming except for its Wildcat logo on both trains and the enterance. 3/10
  • Trains- Wildcat runs with two 3 bench PTC trains with buzzbars. I really like these trains; they add to the classic experience. While this ride does have seat dividers and seat belts, I honestly do not think that they detract from the ride experience. 7/10
  • Smoothness- This ride has a reputation for being rough, but Lake Compounce and GCI have been working to change that. In the past few seasons, Wildcat has gone through extensive retracking. Today, this ride has the perfect amount of roughness that people look for in a classic wooden coaster! 7/10
  • Speed- Wildcats top speed is 48 mph, which might not sound like much, but this cat speeds through its layout. The ride feels much faster while riding, and you reach the brake run thinking,"What just happened?". 8/10
  • Drop- The drop on Wildcat is 78 feet tall. This drop makes it perfect for families and people who might not be ready for Boulder Dash or Phobia. Compared to other coasters in the park, this drop is nothing special. 6/10
  • Airtime- Wildcat has some airtime, but not a ton. 4/10
Final Opinion- Wildcat is a fun coaster and it is perfect for families. In the past few seasons it has gone from unbearable to must ride. I believe everybody should take a spin on Wildcat at Lake Compounce. 7/10
