Wicked Cyclone- Review
Wicked Cyclone is a Rocky Mountain Construction hybrid coaster located at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. Originally opening as a wooden coaster in 1983, Cyclone thrilled riders up until its closing in 2014. RMC came to Six Flags New England to do their well known I-box treatment, using their steel Iron Horse track on top of the original wooden structure. Wicked Cyclone has a 109 foot drop at a 78 degree angle. The ride boasts 14 airtime moments and 3 inversions. This review will be split up into multiple categories, each rated 1/10, and at the end I will summarize my thoughts and give it an overall score.
- Theming- Wicked Cyclone is themed to a huge storm, called The Wicked Cyclone. Six Flags added a back story to this. Riders are members of C.h.a.s.e, which stands for Cyclone Hunters and Storm Enthusiasts. Six Flags New England went all out with theming on this ride. From the detailed weather god on the trains, to an airplane crashed into the station, this ride has impeccable themed elements. Wicked Cyclone sets a new standard on theming at Six Flags New England. 9/10
- Trains- Wicked Cyclone utilizes RMC's normal trains. These trains provide a comforable, secure feeling with a unique lapbar/shinbar restraint along with a seat belt. The trains are well themed with a detailed weather god on both trains. My only complaint would be that the orange train seems not to run as well as the blue train. 8/10
- Smoothness- Wicked Cyclone is extremely smooth. There is nowhere on this ride that could be described as "Rough". All elements are taken smoothly and gracefully. 9/10
- Speed- Wicked Cyclone has a top speed of 55 mph. This ride keeps its speed and FLIES through its twisted layout. While it's not an extremely fast speed, it is perfect for this ride. 7/10
- Airtime- Wow! Wicked Cyclone has 14 airtime moments, which is the most in all of New England, according to the park. Ejector air is on every hill and funky airtime is in the Hangtime inversion. No matter who you are, you cannot deny that Wicked Cyclone is packed with airtime.
- Inversions- Wicked Cyclone has 3 amazing inversions. It has two Zero-G rolls, and the worlds first 200 degree Hangtime stall. These inversions all provide great hangtime, and glide over the track. 10/10
- Drop- The 109 foot drop is angled at 79 degrees. It is a perfect start to a Wicked ride and provides airtime throughout the train! 9/10
- Unique Elements- Wicked Cyclone has many worlds first and unique elements. These include the 200 degree stall, a double reversing airtime hill, and two outward banked turns! 8/10
In conclusion, I think Wicked Cyclone is an amazing coaster. It has the perfect mix of airtime, inversions, laterals, and theming, all while seated in some very comfortable trains. I do not believe that Six Flags New England will every add a coaster as good as Wicked Cyclone. Because of all of this, Wicked Cyclone will receive a 10/10.
