Let's Talk About Boulder Dash *Updated!
Update at the end of the article!
Boulder Dash is a wooden coaster located at Lake Compounce, in Bristol, CT. To get an in depth look at the ride, you can read my review HERE. But today we're going to talk about the future of the ride. This season, the triple-up element on Boulder Dash was unbearably rough. Rough enough that they are removing it and adding a new section of track in that spot. What we don't know is what type of element will be there. I will be going through different options, from least likely to most likely, and explain why I believe they are possible and practical.
- An Inversion- One element that could be added is an inversion. While this is not very likely, it is possible as it would be a brand new experience and would be very marketable. Likeliness- 1/10
Now that's out of the way, so let's get on to some elements that could actually happen.
- Air Time Hill- A more likely addition would be a single airtime hill. This would be a lot easier on the track, unlike the triple-up, which tore it up very badly. This would be the perfect addition as it would provide a new airtime moment, and be easier for maintenance. Likeliness- 8/10
One Last Thing.
- New Trains?- Let me start off of why this could be possible. In 2014, an unedited version of the above photo was found Here. This is from the Parque Reunidos Press Materials. The photo is of Quassy's Wooden Warrior, a coaster that runs Timberliner Trains. This photo hasn't been used in any of Quassy's press material, and is obviously for marketing purposes, as the train is on the brakes, but everybody has their hands up. At first, I thought that maybe it was placed in the Lake Compounce folder rather than Storyland, who just received similar coaster. But after taking a closer look, this was no mistake, as the file is named " LakeC_WoodenWarrior". Why would Lake Compounce get new trains? Well, Boulder Dash is a fast and intense ride and it utilizes PTC Trains, which tear up the track. Now that the park is doing track work, when will there be a better time to add them? Also, this would not be the first time that Palace Entertainment and Lake Compounce would work together with Gravity Group. For example, Gravity Group built Roar-o-Saurus at Storyland and CCI, now Gravity Group, built Boulder Dash.
While nothing is confirmed, Boulder Dash will be an even better ride next season! What do you expect from it?
Update!
Today, November 17, 2016, Lake Compounce confirmed on their Instagram that Martin & Vleminckx will be doing track work on both Boulder Dash and Wildcat during the off-season!
Not only did Lake Compounce post about this, they also posted a picture of a Great Coasters International Millennium Flyer train. This goes along with my prediction from above!
