El Toro- Coaster Review
El Toro translates to "The Bull", and that is a fitting name for this ride. Located at Six Flags Great Adventure, El Toro is the only Intamin Prefabricated Wooden Coaster in the United States. Standing at 181ft tall, El Toro travels along its 4,400 feet of track at 70 mph. This 102 second ride is packed full of airtime and laterals. El Toro has also been voted the World's Number 1 Wooden Coaster many times! In this review I will be going through different categories and scoring them 1-10. Then, at the end I will give my overall opinion of the ride.
- Theming and Scenery- El Toro is located in the parks Plaza Del Carnival section. The ride itself does not have any theming, but the station has a Spanish style structure. 4/10
- Trains- El Toro runs with two trains, each seating 36 riders. Each train has 6 cars with 6 riders in each. Riders are restrained by seat belts and individual lap bars. These lap bars are similar to Superman at Six Flags New England, but not as bulky. I found the trains very comfortable. 8/10
- Smoothness- El Toro is different than other wooden coasters. Its track was pre-fabricated, instead of being built on site. It's similar to RMC topper track. By having the pre-fabricated track, El Toro provides a very smooth ride. While the ride had a little bit of a rattle, it was nothing compared to the roughness of other wooden coasters. The ride doesn't feel like it's 10 years old. Very smooth ride. 9/10
- Airtime- El Toro is known for its airtime. Everybody raves about how good it is. For me, I was a little bit underwhelmed. Maybe its because I rode it earlier in the day, but it was not as intense as I expected. One particular airtime hill that I must point out is the hill that goes over Rolling Thunder. That hill provided great ejector air! 8/10
- Unique Elements- El Toro finishes off with a very cool "Twisty" section. It is a mess of banked turns that come at you fast! It provides some great lateral forces and is a great way to finish off the ride! 8/10
El Toro is a great coaster, and is one of the best wooden coasters that I've ridden. It has a bit of everything, from airtime to laterals. I believe that if I return when it's hot out, I'll enjoy it even more. El Toro will be getting an overall score of 7/10... for now!
