What is Houdini- The Great Escape?
PC: Theme Park Review |
You have probably seen it from the midway at Six Flags New England. It is the large building with Opera House signage located next to Tomahawk and Rock n' Rodeo in Crackaxle Canyon. Inside this building is the home of Harry Houdini, and you will be a part of his greatest escape yet!

Enter Houdini's Parlor and look around. This room features some very nice theming, such as the remains of Houdini's best escapes. The chains over the safe move around and jiggle, while the water tank bubbles up.

Next, a video is shown on a screen above a fireplace. This video is made to look as if it is old and worn. It describes Houdini's origins, while showing a young Houdini doing a disappearing act. After the video concludes, there is a Thunder Sequence, which eventually leads to Houdini telling you to enter the next room.

The next room is where the ride portion of this experience is. It is a Vekoma MadHouse attraction. Riders board through either door, and will sit across from each other. The rides Narrator will tell riders that they will be trying to speak to the ghost of Houdini, and encourages the guests to chant "Come to us Houdini, Master of Escape". The ride begins now.

The ride is quite disorienting, and you never really know if you are moving or not. The diagram above will definitely help you figure it out.
While it may feel like the gondola, or ride carriage, is going upside down, it is not. In fact, riders never swing past 45 degrees. To create this allusion, the room around the riders spin. It is a very, very, interesting ride system.

Finish off your ride with a mural of Houdini himself appearing in the skylights of the ride, telling you that only he has the key to unlock the restraints. Moments later, keys appear in the mirrors on either side of the attraction
