Knott's Berry Farm
On June 27th, I visited Knott's Berry Farm, in Buena Park, California. This park completely bypassed my expectations. I knew going in that the park had a great lineup of coaster, but I did not expect it to become one of my all time favorite parks!
Let's get on to the rides!
Silver Bullet is the parks B&M Inverted Coaster. I've heard a lot about this coaster being "boring" and "forceless", so I went in with low expectations. Instead, I absolutely loved this coaster! The inversions were a ton of fun, and even provided some great hang time, the ride itself was smooth, and the interaction with the water below was a really cool addition to the coaster. I do have to say, though, the coaster really does not fit in great with its surrounding, and its all red lift hill looks odd.
----
GhostRider is the parks wooden coaster, which was recently refurbished by Great Coasters International(GCI). Again, I had heard a good amount of criticism about this coaster before the refurbishment, with complaints of roughness. Well the refurbishment brought this coaster back up to amazing! The ride was full of airtime and lateral forces, and an absolutely INSANE helix towards the end. GhostRider is definitely in my Top-10 wooden coasters, and my top 2 in the park.
----
JAGUAR! is the parks custom Zierer Tivoli coaster, and was surprising really fun! I'm so used to the double figure eight layout of these coasters, that it was really cool to see such a long layout, and I really like how it threads the loop of Montezooma's Revenge.
----
Montezooma's Revenge is the parks Schwarzopf Shuttle Loop Coaster. I absolutely love classic coasters, especially Schwarzkopf, and this one did not disappoint. The launch was awesome, the loop was forceful, and the backwards run was great! I'd take this ride over a Vekoma Boomerang any day!
----
Sierra Sidewinder is a Mack Rides free spinning coaster. This was a very fun family coaster, and different than most spinners I've ridden, because of instead of individual cars, the ride operates with trains. I found it to spin a perfect amount, and had a lot of fun.
----
Coast Rider is a Mack Rides Wild Mouse, and is the absolute worse Wild Mouse I've ever been on. The speed is trimmed a lot throughout the ride, toning down what could be a really fun coaster, along with awful restraints that dig into the riders shin. I only rode this once and had no desire to ride again. At least it looked good.
----
Pony Express is a Zamperla Steeplechase launched coaster, and was a ton of fun! While short, the launch was surprising intense, and the ride provided some good forces onto the riders. I preferred this to Steeplechase at Luna Park, as it was a lot smoother!
----
Hangtime is the parks newest coaster, a Gerstlauer Infinity Dive Coaster. This coaster was absolutely awesome! The coaster features 5 inversions and a beyond vertical drop. The ride was intense, the inversions were breaking, and the holding brake before the dive really gave you a chance to look around and see the entire layout.
----
Xcelerator is my absolute favorite ride at the park. This is the first ever Intamin Rocket Coaster, who's technology eventually lead to rides such as Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka. The launch is absolutely amazing, and the ride has some awesome airtime at the peak of the Top Hat. The over banked turns provide some great forces until the ride speeds into the brakes. The trains are also amazing, as they feature a non-restrictive T-Bar restraint, leaving riders to feel free! Xcelerator is a ride that you want to just keep getting back in line!
----
Calico Mine Ride was a really cool classic dark ride, where an operator actually drives your train through the mountain. This was actually a really fun ride, and a great way to get out of the sun for a little while.
----
Voyage To The Iron Reef is a Triotech shooting dark ride that was actually pretty fun. I wish the projectors and walls were a little more hidden, but the storyline and gaming itself was actually really good, and a lot better than I expected.
