How To Act at an Amusement Park #ThemeParkEtiquette
Amusement parks are places that should be fun. You should never do something that might ruin your day or somebody else’s.
Here are some things you can do to help make the amusement park experience the best it can be for yourself, other guests, and the employees.
Do Not: Line Jump.
Chances are, that an employee will see you do that and tell you to get back to the end of the line. By line jumping, you are making other guests wait longer, making employees deal with something that shouldn't need to be dealt with, and risking getting ejected from the park. Oh, and by the way, employees and guests both know that 9 out of 10 times, you really aren't meeting up with friends or family further up in line
Do Not: Ask an employee why a ride is down or when it will reopen
In all honesty, the employees most likely do not know, and even if they did, its most likely against protocol to share with guests. Instead, go ride something else. The day is too short to spend waiting for a ride that may or may not reopen.
Do Not: Argue with height restrictions.
The employees have been trained a certain to ensure rider safety. They are not going to risk getting fired or having someone get injured, just because you want your child to ride. Also, do not try giving them the "but he's ridden it before" excuse. They know that this is most likely untrue, and just a ruse to try and get your kid on a ride. Likewise, same goes if they attendant says that you are too tall. Many rides have a maximum height due to the way the restraints are designed or other factors. The restriction is for your safety. Do not argue with it. Remember, safety is the top priority of amusement parks.
Do Not: Yell at an employee.
Many times, a delay in dispatch could occur. One of the worst things to do is yell at the ride operator or attendant. This is not their fault, and you should not be telling them how to do their job. Do not act entitled and rude. If you continue to escalate the situation and become more rude, security will be called for you.
If a concession line is taking a while, it might not be the employees fault either. Food takes time to cook, and yelling at the employee behind the counter isn't going to make it cook faster. The only thing that it could lead to is a Sneezeburger.
Do Not: Refuse to store loose articles in proper location.
Loose articles can be extremely dangerous projectiles if brought on rides. That's why many parks have places to store them. Whether it be a bin or a locker, this is for your safety. If you refuse to stow your articles, you are not riding. It's that simple. Also, don't ask to speak to a supervisor regarding this, as they will tell you the same thing, and you would've wasted 10 minutes of your life waiting for them.
Do Not: Jump fences or enter a restricted area.
Theme parks have fences around the rides for safety reasons. Many roller coasters or flat rides have portions that come really close to the ground, and this can be extremely dangerous for a guest. I doubt anyone visiting an amusement park wants to end up like this.
Also, do not hop a queue line fence or the exit gate. You may want to show off to your friends how you can do "Parkour", but if you fall and get hurt, thats pretty embarrassing. And if you miss the fence and faceplate, you have a pretty big chance of other guests and employees flat out yelling at you.
Do Not: Be a Passhole.
A lot of the time, Season Pass holders act like they're entitled to way more than what their perks actually entail. Do not act like these people. Get your discount and go. Most of the time, your season pass will not let you cut the line, and please do not throw a fit about this. Just chill out and have a fun day. You're able to come and ride the rides all season, so what's the rush?
Do Not: Scream at or beat your children in the park.
Amusement parks are supposed to be places of fun. Children go a little bit crazy when they see the ride they're finally tall enough for, or maybe their favorite character! But go easy on them. Do not scream at or beat your child in the middle of an amusement park. It makes other guests very uncomfortable, and might warrant a call to security.
Do: Leave good comments for employees.
Maybe you had a really enthusiastic ride operator who really took the experience to the next level, or a friendly team member who helped you find the perfect ride for your whole family. Stop by guest relations and leave a comment regarding this employee. Parks love to hear that their employees are doing a good job, and the employees can receive special prizes for being recognized!
Do: Enjoy your day.
Take this day to let loose and have fun! Conquer your fears on the tallest coaster in the park, or spoil yourself with a delicious funnel cake! This is your day off, so make it memorable! There is so much to do at amusement parks, and I doubt that you want to waste your day sitting it the security office or angry at small things. Enjoy the day with your family or friends!
